Cleenland Vegan Product Guide

Cleenland is a low-waste, no shame store. In addition to helping our community reduce waste, there are lots of other issues that matter to members of our community as well. Christine, a three year visitor to the shop turned shopkeeper, has been vegan for over a decade. They often wish businesses had a vegan product guide to help discern which products are free of animal products.

What is veganism?

According to The Vegan Society: "Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

It's not just about diet

Vegans avoid exploiting animals for any purpose, with compassion being a key reason many choose a vegan lifestyle. From accessories and clothing to makeup and bathroom items, animal products and products tested on animals are found in more places than you might expect. Fortunately nowadays there are affordable and easily-sourced alternatives to just about everything.

This vegan guide to cleenland is Christine’s labor of love. They spent hours reading through ingredients lists and websites to learn even more about the products we stock. Cleenland does not carry any products that are tested on animals. Most items at cleenland are vegan. The ones that are not contain beeswax, honey, cow’s milk, and goat milk. Sometimes only one product in a line cleenland carries is not vegan. For example, the All Good Sunscreen Tinted 1 oz Tin SPF 50 is not vegan because it contains beeswax while all of the other All Good Sunscreen products are vegan.
